Repairs

Over the years, as we have increased our knowledge and level of Native American made jewelry and crafts, we have found ourselves also in the position to offer repair services for those items. As well as maintaining healthy relationships with the original artists, we also have acquired contacts with many individuals whose interests are in the repair, restoration and replication of already made crafts. Depending on the piece, we can do repairs in house, send them out to be repaired or even give you the contacts to communicate the repair or restoration yourself. Over the past few years, we have come up with some guidelines for those interested. Ed spent a year apprenticing under the Navajo silversmith, Lee Guerro. Ed can very accurately determine whether we need to mail a piece out or if he can do the repair himself. If we cannot do it in the shop, we mail it to an excellent Zuni silversmith in New Mexico. Shipping is generally $5 each way.

Earrings: In store, we can change most between post, French hook, or clip and make a single earrings made into a pendant. Mailing out we can have moste single earrings reproduced for a new match.

Ring re-sizing: Ring re-sizing is a common ‘repair’. In store, we can make silver rings and some with a single stone made larger. Rings needed to be made smaller will have to be mailed to NM. Missing a stone? If you have the stone and setting, we may be able to replace it in the shop. If the stone is lost, we can mail it to NM with a description of what you would like it replaced with.

Bracelets: Cuff bracelets, once properly shaped, should be able to be taken on and off without squeezing or pulling. Silver can become crimped and sometimes even break if bent and re-bent to many times. Most bracelet sizing and shaping can be done in the shop. Of course, the wrist it will be worn on must be present. Just like rings, bracelets with loose stones or out of the setting can be reset in the store. Most bracelets with inlayed stones cannot be sized with out compromising the setting of the stones. Lost stones in inlay bracelets can be replaced in NM.

Necklaces: In the store, we can re-string strands of stones. We can change clasps between lobster claw, hook and eye, loop and pin, even magnetic. Also, in store we can add extenders or shorten a necklace. Changing the bail a pendant hangs from may be able to be done in the store, but usually has to be mailed out.

Please inquire for an estimated repair cost.
